Bulletproof And Musical
I moved this SR940 to the garage about 20 yrs ago to test speakers I was building. Worked great for years while being subjected to all manner of thumps and bumps, solvent fumes, sawdust, and sub-freezing temperatures in winter, baking in the summer. I moved, and it remained in yet another garage for about 10 yrs. playing tunes from the tuner section. I recently brought it back indoors, out of the heat, and cleaned it up. It is playing CDs right now through big floor-standers, and the sound is still great. And you can EQ or use "loudness" to your liking, and the hits just keep on coming. Surprising drive and impact for its age. An excellent unit!

Fabulous After 34 Years Of Ownership
I received this receiver as a birthday present in 1984 from my wife.
It is used a least once per week if not more and has never failed and the quality of sound output is still as good as the day I hooked it up. It drives my Bose 901's with enough volume to be heard several door form our home. I ran a remote Infra Red detector so that I could control the unit in another room where the speakers are located.
If you ever get a chance to purchase one, do not pass it up, you will be as pleased as I am!

I Have What I Believe To Be The Marantz Gold Serie
I have what I believe to be the Marantz gold series, and I love it. The flawless sound it produces is rarely matched by any receiver I have heard. Receivers like this are the reason that actual CD Quality signals are preferred to those encoded into MP3's. Most receivers you can't tell the difference between MP3's and CD's but with this baby you can. It has oversized heatsinks, and weighs in at over 30 lbs. I think it is one of the best receivers Marantz have ever made. If I could change anything about this receiver I would have added the bass, treble, and balance controls, digitaly into this receiver, and just add meters to the led display on the front of the unit. I would also add a few more I/O channels. If you can find one of these, try it out, you won't be disappointed!!! I have the original box, documentation, remote, receiver, all in mint condition, which for a unit that is over 21 years old is pretty amazing. :)

This Marantz Sr 940 Receiver Is A 600 Watt Unit. T
This Marantz SR 940 receiver is a 600 watt unit. The speaker outputs on it are the screw type, and they are really nice. It lets you be nice and sure about your connections. There are only a few inputs. There are two tape inputs and outputs, a gold plated phono input and a CD/CDV input. The whole face on this thing is digital- all buttons, except for a bass, treble and balence slider- which I enjoy immencely. The audio quality of this reciever rivals, if not beats, my 1000 watt Sansui G-9700 and that's Mystifying. I love this deck, I love absolutely everything about it. If you see one- GET IT.
Q&A
Does anyone know where I can get mine repaired? The standby light comes on but that's it. I got it for free and love vintage stuff. I would be willing to throw a few bucks at it.
